I am Melanie Nash, born in South Africa in 85.
I think of myself as an old soul, untamed and drawn to the simple way of life.
My mantra is “If I can make some difference to someone through one of my songs, my purpose here on earth is achieved”.
My music is a mixture of Folk-Pop and Contemporary.
I started singing around 6 and like all parents my mother thought I had a great voice and encourage me to sing often.
At 13 she gave me a an acoustic guitar and my future was set. Soon after getting the guitar and learning to play it, I started to try to write songs. There seems so many in my head I have trouble finding the time to write them all. I now keep a notebook and jot down all the songs that pop into my mind ( a bit of a problem when I am driving ).
As you can see the song writing is more than a passion, maybe even an obsession. I can never get enough of it.
It is a focus in my life.
I do not write songs for the sake of writing a song, they all have truth in them. Without truth, meaning and passion the song is just a load of words. Everyone is from the heart.
The majority of my songs come from my life experiences. I love to unravel the lyrics and the melodies to create my unique sound and lyrics.
It is magical experience to be able to create a song, especially a song born from struggle, heartache and hard times. It helps me and others, who listen to the song, deal with our life issues.
The way people relate to the song gives me great pleasure, it is truly a beautiful experience.
I have a music business that I started in 2011, this web site is an extension of that.
I have turned my passion into my working life ( You don’t work if you are doing something you love ). I teach guitar as well as vocal training. I love teaching children and watching them develop as the travel on their musical journey. It is a pleasure and an honour to help others achieve their musical goals.
My future plans are to expand my song writing by writing songs for other artists. I will not compromise my standards though. The song has to be of value to the musical community and society as a whole. It may not be a mere collection of words.
Other plans are to play live in various venues. I am often at Zack’s in Windermere Centre and The Hacienda in Monteseel. If you want to hire me to sing at your function please send me an email.
I have recorded songs which are on Reverbnation and Soundcloud and am currently working on more material for a recording.
